Can't Imagine Anything Better...

First off, HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone reading this! I hope you all had a wonderful evening wherever you spent it and however you spent it.

This will be a short post but I wanted to let you know about my evening a bit and how I felt about it. I went downtown Toronto to see a Christian concert with some of my friends. There were many acts on, with 3 different stages at the church it was presented at. There was an acoustic stage (almost like a cafe little area, very intimate), and there was another stage (I didn't go in there, so I forget what it's called), and there was the main stage for the 3 main bands that were playing. My friends and I were there particularly for a band called Life Support whom we had all seen at a youth retreat we worked at in February 2009.

Now, for you to understand what the impact of the night was for me, you need to understand that I have had quite the few disappointments in terms of New Years Eve. In the past, they have somewhat revolved around parties and/or drinking. I have never drank much on New Years Eve, but I have always spent it with people that are big into that scene, or just don't have Christ in their life. Usually I'm surrounded by one or two really close friends, and then the rest either acquaintances or strangers. When it comes to the countdown, there's always the big "10, 9, 8, etc" screaming and then "HAPPY NEW YEAR" and you kiss your special someone or hug your friends. Well, honestly, I look back and wonder why I went to places where I didn't know everyone, so I was hugging strangers to start a new year, and toasting with people I didn't know.

This year, it was different. Life Support was on stage singing, we had already sung about 3 songs I think (it felt like we were back at Blizzard, jumping up at the front of the stage!! Only we didn't have our team jersey's on!), and it was a very intimate song with God called the "Revelation Song". They stopped it with 45 seconds left, talked a bit and we counted down the 10 seconds...then, instead of going straight to ringing in the new year with friends, we rang it in with God. We got to 12:00:01 and the band went straight back into the song, and I said Happy New Year to Christ, my best friend and my King! (you can see it for yourself here: "Open up the sky, Fall down like fire, WE DON'T WANT ANYTHING BUT YOU) I prayed to him, and dedicated this year, 2010, to Him. To have every day, from the moment I wake up, until the moment I lay down to sleep...that He would work through me and show me where He is taking me next. It was the most amazing way to start the new year, and I can't imagine a better way (at this point) to start the new year. The song ended with everyone screaming, and then my friends and I hugged and welcomed each other to a new year. I was hearing it from people that I truly and deeply care for, people whom I value their friendship and am excited that they will be involved in my life in the year 2010.

The girls and I were talking about it on the walk back to the subway, and we all agreed that it was a spectacular moment to ring in the New Year, focused on Christ and looking forward to what He has in store for us, and having complete trust in His plan for our lives...
