Ambition or Socialization?

Hey there. Long time no post. Let's just pin it down to my life has been hectic - sorry!

Anyways, I started a new semester of classes last week. I'm taking 2 mandatory classes for my program, and they both have professors who seem amazing, but they will be busy and difficult classes. Yesterday in class, someone said something that really made me think. She said something along the lines of, "Many of us decide at a young age that we want to be teachers, but is it really our own ambition that makes that decision or are we socialized into wanting to be teachers?". It makes me think about something you will commonly hear me say..."I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in grade one." - as that is when I remember first thinking about it ...as I had an amazing teacher and I have always wanted to be a teacher like her, one that influences her students and makes the students want to learn because of the type of teacher she is (if that makes any sense at all...it's difficult to explain through typing words out). Or how much of the choice was made because I was socialized to believe she was a good teacher, and therefore wanted to be like her? Oh, the philosophical questions I could continue to ask...

For once, I don't really have a religious aspect to this thought. I have honestly just missed writing in my blog and this is the first time I have had even a moment to sit down and write something, and this is what is on my mind because of class last night. Maybe it's something we can think about in terms of any job we take on, or passion, or hobby.
