Purpose

Give Me Your Eyes - by Brandon Heath

I had heard this song before, but this Sunday at church the youth band performed it and the lyrics are so clear. I love it.

The past few months have been crazy. Excitement, followed by disappointment, excitement, again followed by disappointment (this is purely related to work - everything else is great!). Most of the disappointment has been from a lack of knowledge and therefore making assumptions (which is my own fault), but there have been many times that I have wondered why I am where I am right now.

On my long commutes to work on the bus in the morning, I have taken to listening to some Podcasts from churches and speakers that I have enjoyed in the past or have been connected with through someone else. In particular I have been listening to Andy Stanley. I'm quite behind in his sermons, but with 3 mornings a week on the bus, I'm sure to catch up eventually (plus I have other podcasts to listen to as well). Anyways, the other week I was listening to his sermon series called "On Location" and he talks a lot about how God put us in the world as a light so people can see what He (He being God) is doing. Basically, Andy's series concludes to say that wherever we are, we have been placed for a purpose, so we have to embrace this purpose and DO something so that others may SEE and be able to connect the dots between who you are and why you do what you do (ie. to glorify God!).

Through all of this, I have realized that I have neglected to do this since accepting full time work at the day care center. From now on, I'm going to make a conscious effort to do something in my work place that will help my coworkers make a connection between who I am and why I am that way...

"Give me your eyes for just one second,
Give me your eyes so I can see,
Everything that I keep missing,
Give me your love for humanity.
Give me your arms for the broken hearted,
Ones that are far beyond my reach,
Give me your heart for the ones forgotten,
Give me your eyes so I can see."

  1. I love this song too! It's kind of like a wake-up call to the way we are living.
